The CARP ROUNDUP is sponsored by the FRCAUSE (Fox River Citizens Against Underwater Silt & Erosion) each year on the DNR designated free fishing weekend. Carp may be taken by any legal means. That includes bow and arrow, spearing and hook and line. The hope is to rid our river of these pests. DNR fishery managers and fishing enthusiasts consider common carp a nuisance. Carp root food from the water bottom, stirring up silt and debris and muddying the water, hindering the ability of other species of fish to feed and reproduce. Common carp also eat the eggs of other fish. In 2017 409 carp were turned in.
